Snow Fence Manufacturers
A leading manufacturer in the industry, Kalinich Fence has been producing traditional wood slat snow fences for over 100 years. Constructed from aspen and spruce wood lath and woven together with 13-gauge galvanized wire, our snow fence withstands the elements. Traditional snow fencing is most commonly used to prevent snow from drifting onto highways and airport runways where it can pose a threat to safety, and removal can be very expensive and inefficient. By installing these fences along roads and runways, snow removal efforts become more efficient, allowing travel to flow much more smoothly and safely. And, its sturdy construction makes Kalinich natural snow fence a durable and economical alternative to the plastic fence. Traditional snow fencing also is widely used in farming and other agricultural settings to aid in water collection and retention.
A Simple Concept
How snow fencing works is really pretty simple. A properly constructed fence will cause snow to drift down wind of it. An eddy will form behind the fence whenever the wind passes over it, causing a rolling wind current that flows downward and to the back side of the fence. This formation will cause fast and slow places to develop in the wind which makes a drift form in front of the fence on the windward side. A well designed fence can both prevent snow from drifting where it is not wanted and retain snow where it is desired.
Kalinich snow fence is constructed of No.1 Aspen pickets (3/8” x 1 ½” x 48”), woven with 5 double-strands of 13 gauge galvanized wire. The fence is painted with red iron oxide stain, and sold in 50′ and 100′ rolls. The red iron oxide stain that is applied is a water-based product and environmentally safe.
Versatility and Flexibility
More than a product for controlling drifting snow, Kalinich natural snow fence has a host of other applications:
